Melanie pulled her first espresso shot with Jo's Coffee in 2011, and she was instantly hooked. A 6th generation Texan and University of Texas graduate, her background includes extensive training with Cuvee Coffee, Stumptown Coffee Roasters, and Caffe Medici. She is heavily involved in the Austin Coffee Collective and participates regularly in the Thursday Night Throwdown, Austin's monthly latte art competition. When she is not talking your ear off about coffee, you can catch her DJing, performing with her husband as Cherubic & Whatamelon, or trying to be a great mom.
Austin has a thickly bonded community of coffee industry professionals and enthusiasts, and I am just glad that I got in on it early. I was lucky enough to be trained by many of the greats: Lorenzo Perkins, Clancy Rose, Mike Horgan, and Tyler Cutbirth, and I strive daily to do their teachings justice. I will function on a principle of radical acceptance in this position through compassion and enthusiasm given to each and every member of my community. My vision for the USA chapter of the SCA will steer our industry in a direction that will bring coffee science and technology to every part of the country and bridge the gap between the different consumer generations.
